What do you guys think about having a projects forum? With it, if someone has an idea in mind for a project to work on they can post it and those willing to help out may.

Just a thought.

I'm not sure i understand what you mean. Are you looking for something like project ideas, similar to the mindprod list, or a place to coordinate/recruit a group of people to work on a particular project/idea?

A place to coordinate/recruit a group of people to work on a particular project/idea.

So if I had a project in mind, but needed help, I could post in the projects forum with a description of what I'd like to make, why I'd like to make it, etc. People who would like to join would post saying they would like to join and what they can/can't do.

Devshed has a forum like this: "Project Help Wanted".

So more of a "help wanted" type of thing instead of the reinvention idea?

We might get there. I don't know that we have enough traffic to have that work quite yet. I really like the reinvention concept but it takes a bunch of time to do and you need to have a very good project to start with.

But I'm open - this is meant to be a community, not the view of just one person. I feel like there are too many forums here now - really only a few get used so that might be part of my hesitation in adding another.

Thanks for using the forums at hotjoe.com

Nope. Just thought the forum might be a good idea -- I've seen it do well on a lot of other forums. Do you?

Naw I’ve got nothing

Actually, I might come up with a Portlet "How-To". Of course I need to figure them out first. The examples I’ve found are fairly weak, just absurdly simply "Hello World" examples.

Are you using WLP? I worked on that for 4 years. Of course it was WebLogic Commerce, Weblogic Personalization, and then Portal. Small world...

Well, kinda Yes, the portal (thank god I’m not doing that) is gonna be done in WLP. Apparently i need to dev the portlet, which isn't too bad because the app was small to begin with.

Unfortunately My computer is 6 years old so I can't really run WLP. I technically meet the min sys requirements, but who ever actually thinks they are good enough to do any real development work with are masochists. Anyways I digress.
I've got WLP up and the server is running, but i'm not building the portlets or doing anything else via the IDE it’s Editplus and the command line for me. I just realized that I don't have to do anything special when I recompile a class, i can just drop the .class file into the proper directory and it recognizes the change, which is going to speed things up quite a bit.
